| Chapter 5
I turned to Allyson and gestured her to turn the flashlight off. I gestured her to turn the flashlight off once again but she still didn’t budge. The first footstep impacted with the wooden steps. This time I ran towards Allyson, snatched the flashlight from her, but before I could turn it off she threw a punch in my face. I stumbled to the floor and by the time I recovered I shifted the flashlight’s ray at the tall figure standing at the bottom of the steps.
“Look what we have here.” His voice sent chills down my spine causing me to shiver. “You know civilians flee from crime scenes like this. But you, oh you, you like danger don’t you? You just walked yourself right into your grave. Is that danger enough for you?”
The killer drew a knife walked slowly towards me. I backed up and kept my flashlight on him. Maybe if I drive him away from the steps and I run fast enough I can get to the stairs. Unfortunately someone had different plans as I caught Allyson try to swing a fist at me. I moved just in time but that one second gave the killer enough time get a few feet towards me. Thinking fast, I ducked and ran past Allyson. I knew that bitch was suspicious. I then made a beeline for the stairs.
I almost reached it but a tug on my leg made me slip and fall to the floor. I could feel my elbows and chin bleeding while I was being tugged. Struggling, I managed to turn and throw my flashlight at my aggressor’s head. He fell back and my legs were free but when I got to my feet Allyson tried to attack me. I shifted myself to the left and shoved her into the wall.
“Why the hell are you doing this?!” I screamed to her. I turned around just in time to see the killer recovering from the blow to his head from the flashlight. I ran towards him and struck him across the face causing him to fall to the ground once again. The dim glow of the flashlight was the only source of light in this basement. I ran towards it and picked it up then darted straight to the rusty knife I just saw at the other side of the room. I picked the knife up when I reached it and darted towards the killer. As he was recovering from the blow to his head I managed to sink my knife into his flesh. The howls of pain coming from him were just music to my ears.
“This is for Alana you bastard!” I screamed and I took the knife out and stabbed him again. “I won’t let you ever kill another person for your own sick cause!” As I took the knife back out he was screaming in mercy.
“Please! Please! Stop!” He cried in agony. “You don’t understand! You goddamn humans murdered us all and then you blame us for what you have done. I’m just trying to survive! I’m just trying to repopulate this planet with Arcanians!”
This time I didn’t stab him. I simply stood back up and glared at Allyson who was huddled up in the corner staring in complete fear as if she’s seen a monster. I then kicked the sick bastard in the ribs.
“By killing innocent bystanders?!” I yelled furiously. “Those people didn’t deserve to die. They were mutilated from the inside! You’re doing this for survival or are you doing this for your own sick cause? You know what? I’m not going to kill you. That wouldn’t be what Alana wanted. In fact I’m going to tell you this. You’re going to turn yourself in to the police and if they ask what happened to you, you will say you tried to attack someone but they retaliated and injured you and since you can’t afford healthcare you’re turning yourself in to get admitted to the hospital. And if I ever see you commit another murder I won’t think twice to draw your soul from your body! Now that you see what I’m capable of doing, I hope you’ll heed my advice and execute it so.”
“Who, who’s Alana?” The killer who was lying on a pool of blood asked.
“No one you should be concerned about.” I said in disgust turning to Allyson. “And you will turn yourself in as his accomplice to all those murders.”
After saying that I walked up the stairs covered in bloodied clothes and shoes leaving the killer to tend for himself. I walked into the killer’s bedroom, took some clothes, and changed. I went to the kitchen and went to wash the blood off my face and arms.
“I didn’t want to do all that.” I voice behind me said softly. Due to fright, I banged the bottom of the kitchen sink and turned. It was only Allyson… again.
“Do what? Help him in his murders? Try and let him kill me?” I questioned.
“I didn’t kill anyone. Or help him.” She said approaching me.
“Stay right there. I don’t know if you have a weapon on your or not. And why should I believe you? You knew where the secret room was and you knew just about everything in this house. That man… is my uncle. I never really approved of anything he did really. This house use to belong to my parents and me so I knew about the secret room. My uncle would throw me in there every time he’d get some sucker to this house. I’d protest, scream, kick, and do whatever I could to try to make him stop. But he’d just throw me into the room and cut me off from food and water. I’ve never seen any of the murders. I was just locked in that sound proof door. Please you have to believe me. I didn’t want to attack you but I had to. I didn’t want to be locked in that dark room anymore.” She started crying and collapsed to the floor. I turned the faucet off the sink and dried my hands. Then taking one last glance at her I left the house and all the nightmares it held. |
