| Chapter 4
I awoke a couple of hours later in the hospital. The pain in my throat somehow was miraculously gone. I looked out the window to see the sun setting. The crimson red color spread across the sky with a mixture of yellow and orange. It sort of reminds me of when father use to take me to the roof of our house just to see the sun set. Father always loved nature and he despised Connor at first when he heard how the humans treated their planet. In fact, all of Arcane despised Connor. Fortunately over time my father and the rest of the Arcanians grown close to Connor and accepted him as one of our own. He died due to a human disease known as cancer the day I was born. We work with nature not use it. Unfortunately when the humans took over we had to use nature to blend in and stay hidden. A few minutes of staring out the window I heard footsteps coming into the room. It was Allyson.
“Did you bring me here?” I questioned in a monotone voice.
“Yes and you’re welcome. What the hell were you thinking about going up to him?” Allyson answered. She sounded she had a concerned tone in her voice. Humans how interesting, angry one second, worried the next.
“I was trying to get some answers.”
“You went up to the man who slaughtered fourteen women and demanded him for answers. Did you think he would actually answer your questions?”
“He was outside the house I couldn’t get inside.”
“I don’t get it. Why does this matter to you so much? You weren’t a victim. Why can’t you leave this alone?”
“I’m doing this for my own reasons that you don’t have the liberty to know. Now if you’ll excuse me it’s getting late. I’m making one last trip to that house and then back home. I suppose my mother wouldn’t know I’m here would she?”
“She doesn’t know.”
“Of course because you’re the one that brought me in. Let’s keep it that way. Now check me out of the hospital so I can be on my way.”
I left. Allyson checked me out of the hospital and the doctors cleared me. The hospital is a good four miles away from the house. With the cab it took me a good twenty minutes due to traffic. I had to tell him my destination was a block behind the house to avoid arousing any suspicion. I paid my fee and left the cab. The sky is just at its final peak at daylight. I better make this fast if I want to be home. I sprinted towards the house and found my flashlight where I left it. It’s amazing how these humans would regard anything left on the floor. Once again this place is deserted, probably due to the scare these people get from the serial killer.
What serendipity, the owner of the house is absent. I climbed through the same window and ended up in the same room. This time instead of going upstairs I went to the basement. Allyson was right. The place was pitch black, I couldn’t even see a thing. I checked for light switches and found one. Flicking it, my hope ended short when it didn’t work. “This is just like a house pulled out of the horror movies.” I mumbled. I turned on my flashlight and started to walk down, aiming the flashlight at the steps. When I reached the bottom and pointed my flashlight back up I wished I had left it off.
The whole area was stained with blood. The walls, floors, even the items in there are stained with blood. I searched the floor and found nothing. If I’m unable to find anything I’ll be unable to identify the person which will lead me back to square one. I remember Allyson talking to me about that secret room, I began to search. After ten minutes and no luck I heard footsteps up there. Cold sweat beads started to form again and I turned off my flashlight. Maybe if he’s coming down the stairs I can strike first. I heard the first step on the stairs. Then the second. The third. The fourth. At the tenth step I lunged at the figure just to halt and breathe a sigh of relief and disappointment.
“Allyson, why are you following me around?” I asked in an annoyed tone.
“You need help finding the secret room right?” She said.
“Yes I do.”
“Give me the flashlight.”
I gave her the flashlight and Allyson walked over to the far left end of the room. I saw her press her hand against the wall and pushed until she was able to slide it. Then inside there was a steel door. The soundproof door. Then something struck me. Allyson told me that she wasn’t able to see a thing when she was kidnapped. Everything was dark. So how did she know where the secret room was and more importantly how did she know how to access it? This person is getting quite suspicious and she just might be the one of my prime suspects.
“I found something.” She said and gestured her hand for me to go over to her. I walked over to her and found a nail on the floor. Perfect. Gross. But perfect. I picked it up and slipped it into my pocket. With that being done we began making our way out of this house. Unfortunately for us we heard a door slam upstairs and stomping footsteps. What luck I have. |
