| Halloween is originally a Pagan and Celtic festival. The Celtics believed in Samhain, who is in charge of the borderline of the spirit world and the human world. Now in every religion spirits are both harmful and harmless. Harmless spirits were welcomed by the people while they warded off harmful spirits by wearing masks and costumes thus beginning the tradition. The name Halloween derives from "All Hallows Even" which is from the Old English "Eve of All Saints". There was once a time where these two festivals were celebrated together. With Halloween having such an obscure and forgotten past it's absolutely disgraceful to see people abusing the tradition with slutty costumes and vandalism with egging and teepeeing. What some held scared to the people in the past have now become nothing more by advertisements made by marketing to sell more goods. I personally feel if a person should celebrate something they should find the history behind it. |
